The Spirit of Confusion in RelativismRoger Luebeck © 2025 12/07/2025 See my article: Symmetry of measure in relativity Also see my tutorial for computing non-kinematical and kinematical time-keeping dilation, with commentary on the Hafele-Keating study of circumnavigating jets: time-dilation.pdf The new fictitious concept being promoted in physics these days is that there is no such thing as "historical time", no such thing as "time" in the sense of the march of history, no such thing as the concept of a master clock at rest in relation to totality. Rather, "time" is defined as simply an ordered sequence of events. By itself, that would be rational. It doesn't contradict the notion of a universal historical time. But the ordering of the sequence is regarded as strictly a matter of perception dependent on one's inertial frame. Thus, it is simply a repackaging of the old lie that there is no baseline, no standard, for inertial motion -- meaning that light does not have an absolute nature, does not dictate kinematical clock-functioning, and that totality and light are not the judge of actual motion. That generates the same old obvious contradiction -- which is that either one of two reunited parties can lay claim to having aged less than the other. They talk out of both sides of their mouths, as they do routinely refer to the constancy of the speed of light, as though they are speaking of its actual constant speed -- its absolute nature -- rather than only the constancy of its measured speed. In so doing, they tacitly and unconsciously admit to an absolute frame of reference. (I will always equate the absolute nature of light (or energy) with the absolute nature of totality, and regard matter as simply one manifestation of the energy that constitutes totality -- manifested as multi-directed (actually directionless) energy within an atom and even within elementary particles of mass, as opposed to kinetic energy -- such as an unfettered free photon. That is slightly different from the typical take on quantum mechanics, where mass is regarded as simply having an energy equivalence, but it is the key to understanding E = m c^2.) Curiously, they do (correctly) incorporate a clock that is free from gravitational influence (a clock at infinite distance or in a higher dimension) for the sake of a true baseline for non-kinematical time-keeping in general relativity. In parallel with the nonsense are the tortured discussions regarding the terminology that is intrinsic to "spacetime". They claim there is no such thing as actual "time". They do, however, speak of clocks. In fact, "time" in "spacetime" is actually about "time-keeping" rather than "time". Time-keeping is what a clock does. If you point out to Google AI that space-time is really space-time-keeping, it will tell you that "time-keeping" is just a clever play on words. Afterall, Google AI is simply regurgitating whatever widespread nonsense it has absorbed into its database. Thus, both "time" and "time-keeping" are denied in an endless furiously alternating manner. The ever-changing definition and usage of words is no different from what I see in the socio-political landscape, where the spirit of confusion is the main weapon for not getting pinned down with one's false statements. The strict relativists want to remain perpetually ambiguous (slippery) with their terminology so that they cannot be outed. It is not much different from "normative moral relativism". Even the actual time of day -- a scientific fact based on the rotation of the earth relative to the sun -- is now considered to be arbitrary, a social convention. And, of course, that has nothing to do with relativity. I will always point out fiction when I see it. See: relentless ambiguity regarding the speed of light Home page: Relativity Trail, with 186 pages, 45 diagrams and 21 illustrations, will provide you with complete detailed algebraic derivations of all the kinematical effects of special relativity. Everything is charted out in absolute terms against a system at rest with respect to the totality of the universe for perfect clarity as well as soundness of theoretical basis. It is the totality of the universe that imparts the inertial properties of clock rates and lengths which generate the effects of relativity. This is explained in detail in Relativity Trail. © 2025 Roger Luebeck Updated 12/09/2025 site map |
